Owner:  Michelle Wilson

Location:  Birmingham
Car:  Black Designer, AKA Monty Quant.
Tech Spec: Almost completely original! Only additions are an alarm immobiliser, halogen lights, reasonable stereo and an unleaded conversion.

Story:  Monty was originally found on the driveway of a local house looking very sorry for himself with a For Sale sign in his window. £350 exchanged hands, his origins were traced and three years passed before he was restored to his former glory at a cost £4000, give or take a little. His restoration was completed last September with his seat badges finally being replaced! He intends to show and shine his brightest shortly!
Owner: Adam Keppel
Location: Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex
Car: White Designer AKA Mary
Tech Spec: Completely original, only thing is while not at shows a CD player is in, when at shows her tape player goes back in.

Story: I've been collecting Mary Quant memorabilia for years and love Minis and thought it would be the perfect thing to compliment my collection. Found her on eBay and got her for the sum of £1000, all original with nothing added or removed and the interior is still fresh and new like day one. She's just started her £2000 rebuild so she can be factory built once more.
Owner: Andrew Chadwick
Location: East Grinstead
Car: 1988 Mini Designer in white AKA Polly
Tech Spec: Almost all original few bits changed and rusty (what's new?) lol

Story: Parents bought it for me and my sister to learn in and we have decided to take it on as a project.
...Best of luck with 'Project Polly' from all at The Designer Register! :)

Owner:  Paul Mocks
Location: Devon
Car: White Quant AKA "The Noddy Car"
Tech Spec: Original interior, engine is now a MG Metro 1300, GB Alloys and a top of the range JVC CD Player, chromed light bezel's and grill, clear indicators and disc mirrors. Still have all the original bits which I have replaced.

Story: Bought the little car for £1000 in 2003, had terrible trouble with the engine leaking oil and finally the head went, had that replaced for it to go again, this time I had a M and M reclaimed MG Metro installed with a race fan by Tupman's Minis in Newton Abbot, that really made the little car shift.  Got some GB Alloys for the Internet only to find one has a slight buckle so that's on the rear and cant be noticed.  She's done a couple of Riviera Runs with Hubcaps Mini Club and sadly spent the last 5 years under wraps.  Today she has gone for an MOT, I've cleaned her up, new battery and radiator hose, she's running sweet as a nut and I am hoping that she will have not to many dramas as I want her back on the road.  Fingers crossed but on all accounts she's in great condition.

Owner: Martin Hawes
Location: Essex
Car: Black Designer, AKA Monty
Tech Spec:  Standard engine plus electronic ignition, K&N filter and RC40 exhaust and manifold.
Minilite alloys, sports steering wheel and 3 dial wooden dash. Chrome trim.

Story: We bought our designer from eBay as spares or repair, we fitted drivers side floor pan, outer sills and A panels, got the brakes working and it got through the MOT. This year its getting a new rear subframe in time for London to Brighton.

Owner:  Helen Bate
Location: Worcestershire
Car: White Designer,  AKA 'Des'
Tech spec: Totally original throughout -nothing has been changed or  modified (we even run it on fuel additives as it's not had an unleaded conversion).

Story: Owned by Helen from new in 1988, Des has spent his time living in her grandmother's garage from then until 1997 when she moved in with her husband Andrew - known better as our own Astilla. To date, he's only covered 6280 miles all told and is in completely mint condition as a result! Would that all Designers were so lucky!

Owner: Russell Black
Location:  Yetholm (Scottish Borders)
Car: Black Designer, AKA Evan
Tech Spec: Not original. Only original thing that remains are the seats, but I would like it back to original one day when I have the money.

Story: I was learning to drive and my test was approaching, the insurance on my 106 was huge so I looked at Mini insurance (my first love was my 1979 Austin 1000, which I sold to get a bike and never forgave myself). I was desperate for another Mini but got the 106 real cheap, I sold it on and looked for a Mini but wasn't sure what model I wanted. I saw "Evan" on eBay, bid and got him that weekend to find he was a Designer. I was very pleased as I love this model, apart from the fact it was made for girls lol.

Owner: Adam Taft
Location: Birmingham
Car: Black Designer, AKA Daisy
Tech Spec: Mostly original. Has been chromed and has Group 6 arches along with Minilites and a decent sound system.

Story: Brought from an old lady in 2007. Went through a lot of work to get it to drive again. Still needs a lot of work to be perfect, I have taken it on as a rolling project

Owner: Melanie Brown
Location: Dunstable, Bedfordshire
Car: Black Designer, AKA Mary
Tech Spec: Halo Headlights, Refurbed Minilites, Chrome Engine Parts, CD player, Pink brake Callipers & Plasma Speedo.

Story: Mary was bought on eBay as a Cat C Write Off. I'm currently restoring her back to her normal self. She's having the front end rebuilt at the moment, but hoping to be ready for the Shows. I've named her Mary after her designer and can't wait to drive her! I love her to bits, I'd never trade her for any car in the world. I love my Minis, they're the best!
...Good luck with the restoration from The Designer Register!

Owner: Nicole Shadlock

Location:  Doncaster
Car:  White Designer, AKA Nibble.
Tech Spec:  Partly original. Additions are halogen lights, dash and chrome bumpers

Story:  Nibble was bought off eBay in January, as inspiration to learn to drive. At the moment I am restoring her and trying to get the original parts that are missing. Hopefully I will be able to drive in the near future.

...Good luck with the restoration from The Designer Register!

Owner: Emma Haines
Location: Near Arundel, West Sussex
Car: White Designer, AKA Melody
Tech Spec: Some original parts, still retains the original seatbelts, steering wheel, bonnet badge, etc. Original seats stored in garage, put in only for shows. Has a new CD player, alloys and chrome bumpers.

Story: This Mini is my first car and I love her to bits! We bought the car after passing my driving test, around 6 months ago. Bit by bit we are making alterations to return her to the original spec. She's a pleasure to drive and I can't wait for the summer months to roll on to spend hours driving her.

...Nice Pepperpots! G.D

Owner: Rachel La Bella
Location: Leeds

Car: Black Designer, AKA Dinky
Tech Spec: When last seen, Dinky was sporting some very tidy silver Designer decals, bonnet stripes and roof checks; chrome trim, a sunroof, foglamps and alloys as seen and had a 1275cc carbed engine under his bonnet.

Story: Dinky and Rachel parted company in 2000, with Dinky last seeing the roads in 2006. Rachel would  really like to know where and how Dinky is today! So if you know, please let us know. He is a well-loved and sorely missed little Designer.

Owner: Nicola Cobb
Location: East Sussex
Car: Black Designer, AKA Humbug
Tech Spec: Humbug sports his original interior along with a nice collection of chrome, alloys, 'autographed' bonnet stripes and a tasty stage 1 kit, pepping up his 998 heart.

Story: My partner bought me humbug two Christmas's ago 'what a present!' We found him on eBay, he was owned by a young lad, who didn’t really want to get rid of him but had been given a newer car. Being male he changed the flower steering wheel (got one now) & added plenty chrome & stainless plus a chequered roof & bonnet stripes.

We have since done a bit of work to the body, added his name on the bonnet! new wing mirrors, fitted a stage one exhaust kit .I also put his Mary Quant badge back on his bonnet & have a new set of Designer stickers for when he gets re sprayed someday. I go out to shows & runs with my local club & we raise money for charity. I’m totally mini mad (four in total) Humbug being my main man!  So much so my dad has caught the bug & now has a cooper himself!

Owner:  Chris Burn
Location:

Reading
Car:
White Designer, AKA Ruby
Tech Spec:
Standard engine & interior with chrome and a few other personal touches.

Story: Bought her in October 2008, tax and MOT'd for £750, as a project to get ready for when I am able to drive. I didn't really know how rare the Designers were, so I started my project as planned, to have a racer style car, by the time I had found out, I had already spent too much money on my initial idea to go back, so I'm now going to keep the essence of the original style, with my own personal touch.

Owner:  Miranda Finch
Location: Cheltenham
Car: Black Designer, AKA Madam Fifi
Tech Spec:
Standard with a few body mods and alloys

Story: I have recently bought myself a Designer mini. She is in good working order, runs really well. Not entirely original, lots of chrome has been added and the wheels have been changed. Haven't had a Mini for a long time, so I'm getting back into the swing of things, but am having so much fun already. Not sure whether to restore to her original glory or to continue to add bits, quite tempted to give her some bonnet stripes, as far as the mechanics go I haven't got a clue so will be calling on you for help I'm sure!!!

Owner: Russell Cole
Location: Hertfordshire (Watford)
Car: Black designer, AKA Stella

Story: Stella was brought a year ago locally for £1750 and it was apparent that she had a few problems starting. Since owning her I have replaced many engine and body parts (all original) apart from and custom vinyl dash and DTM pipes to the rear. On the rare occasion that she gets driven she never fails to put a smile on my face it's like love at first sight every time we meet. But maybe now it is time to sell her to someone who has the time and money to put her back to her original self as I need something with a little more creature comforts.

Owner: Chris Still
Location: Luton, Bedfordshire
Car: Black Designer, AKA Kit Kat
Tech Spec: 998cc, Original Decals, saved from the scrap yard!, Original Carpets, Missing Original Interior, Original Engine and Gearbox

Story: Given to me by my step dad to restore and use when I pass my driving test as I am only 13 at the moment, I started by stripping the interior and removing the head, in process of refurbishing another head for her, unfortunately the original seats and interior went years ago but I hope to restore her to original style soon. She needs absolutely everything doing to her and will hopefully be completed within a few years.

...Good luck with the rebuild!  G.D

Owner: Daniel Forbes
Location: Ashford, Kent
Car: Black Designer, AKA No Name
Tech Spec: Original decals, Electric sunroof, remote central locking, halogen lights, alloys, reasonable stereo and an unleaded conversion.

Story: A boy from school loved his minis but after getting too tall (6ft 8”) for this one and not having anytime for he told me I can have I am just not allowed to sell it!!

Owner: David Ince
Location: The New Forest
Car: Black Designer, AKA No Name
Tech Spec: Completely original, even down to having the original Tax Disc holder from the first garage she was sold by along with all manuals and documentation. She even still likes her petrol with a shot of lead!

Story: David has owned this little lady since 2001, when she had a mere 25k on the clock. It's 2009 now and she's still only done 46k! She currently shares David with a jigsaw style Mini Cooper at the moment, who's pinched the garage, but she's still raring to go despite the cold mornings!

Owner: Tricia Dunn
Location: Cinderford, Glos

Car: White Designer, AKA "Audrey" (named after my Gran)

Tech Spec: Standard with the exception of Mini Lites (customised with bespoke Quant Daisy centres). Temporary until I can replace with original wheels.

Story: I was lucky enough to find Audrey on eBay after I had set my heart on a Designer!

She still has all the original "Designer" bits - inc. twin vanity mirrors, factory fit cassette radio & speakers, steering wheel and Quant interior.  Even has the blanking plate for the L/H door mirror (they only left the factory with one door mirror!)

I am starting to build up a nice "Quant" Memorabilia collection to take to shows with me, and I even dress up to match!  Entered her in my first ever Concourse event at The Great Western Mini Day at Bristol and achieved 2nd place in the 80-89 category (due mainly to my bloke shammying her off 3 times!!!!)

As well as joining the Designer Register, I am a member of the Mini Foresters and The Elf/Hornet Register.  Hope to join at some shows soon!
